While Waiotahi miners were proceeding home after ceasing work at midnight they were bombarded with stones thrown by six men hidden on the top-head of another mine. There were several narrow escapes fforn serious injury. One man was faockcd down and his head injured, while another, named Lovell, was struck on the face and bad the lower part of his leg injured. It is believed to be broken, and lie had to be earried home. The men were warned they were committing an ofTer.ee and might do serious damage, hut they only replied vitli oaths and volleys of stones. iS'o provoea'ion had been given, and the only possible explanation is that they were members of an adult tin-can bind greeting a married couple, Ihe stonethrowing gradually assuming n mere serious aspect when the minors appeared on the scene.
