FARMERS' UNION AND POLITICS.
Per Press Association. Auckland, May 16. During a discussion at the Farmers' Union Conference in connection with the formation of a farmers' political party, Mr S. S. Cruby said the farmers as yet had not a political organisation, but tho "other man" had a complete machine, and played it like a typewriter. I Farmers should form a party of their ] own. It was time they started to demand instead of pray. Mr H. Wily, vice-president, said they must be carefal not to tack themselves on to any "existing party. They must plough their own furrow. They should aim at clean administration, security ot | tenure, and abolition of the system of patronage wh.ch tho Government persisted in keeping up. Another speaker said if tho Farmers' Union were to bo something more than a talking society, they must show they had teeth as well as tongues. The Auckland delegate i Captain Bell) wat instructed to bring the matter before the Colonial Conference.
