Speaking before the Council of Churches, Mr. A. S. Adams, President of the Temperance Committee, referred to a certain abuse which, lie said, called for removal at once, lieer shops, ho said, were in existence on the Invereargill border, and another brewery was being built ou the boundary. Invereargill, however, was a glowing example of the benelits of no-license. The Oamaru experiment had been a brilliant success, i and 4(i prominent business men of Ashburtou had signed a statement that trade was never better than at present under prohibition. It was resolved that the meeting approve of the appointment of a No-I.iccnsc Committee of (Hugo, to lie appointed at the Dunedin Convention on dune o and (>, also of a proposed petition to Parliament to abolish the bottle licenses now in existence in Otagj, .Nelson and Marlborough.
