PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of (he I'arihaka Itoad Hoard' was held on Wednesday, when there were present: .Messrs Rothe'ry, Willcox, O'Korke, Voiing. I!c----vell, Deegiin, and Chapman. Mr. Jacob Uolhery was iiiianim/msly re-elected chairman.

Ward System: The question of wards was brought up for discussion, but was held over until after the next meeting of the Ward Committee.

A letter was received from the Egmoiit County Council that they would contribute half the cost of metalling approaches from the bye-roads to the county road.

The foreman's report was read. Owing to shortness of funds work recommenced on certain roads could not he done. The following work was authorised: road: Resolved to procure 1011 yards of stone. Stent Road: in connection with suggested repairs the Hoard decided that it cannot see its way dear to spend money on roads containing gates. Opua Itoad: The. metal is to be raked in. The foreman reported that some of the set- | tiers on this road were in favor of a" special rate being levied. Arawhata and Kina Road: Repairs to bo attended to. Opourapa Road Metalling: Satisfactory progress is being made by the contractor considering the weather, and it was expected both contracts would be finished in three weeks' time.

It was suggested that a crusher lie detained owing to difficulty of obtaining stone-breakers and cost of breaking. ft was resolved that Messrs. Rothery, O'Rorke, and Willcox wait on the Egniont .County Council, and see if they would combine with the board in obtaining a crusher. Kabiri Road: The board was in favor of deviating the stream which { runs along the main road to its original course at the. back of the sections. It would, however, cost .€lO Ids. The residents interested had donated €5, and it was i resolved that the members appointed wait on the Kgmont County Council, and ask for a contribution of one-third of the cost.

Xgariki Road: Contract is to be hclii over till more favorable weather. Messrs. Cilhooley and (.'. out that the present ranger was not satisfactory. Mr. Baker was asked if he would arrange for a ranger. He resolved to report at a special meeting on May Hi. With reference to visit of clerk to Wellington, the chairman explained that he' receive,! a wire to go. but. being unable to do so, had instructed the clerk to attend. Discussion took

a special meeting, but. when the. chuirinnn explained the position, bis action was endorsed.

During his visit Mr. Hills interviewed the Public Trustee and Yaluer-ft'iientl. and from the discussion understood greater facilities would be given for tbe collection of native rates. On the suggestion of the licscrves Agent the board decided to pay half royalty to owners and half to the Public Trustee.

Accounts were passed for payment, and the board rose.

This was the lirst meeting of Ihe new board, which is the same as the last board, except that Mr. A. Chapman replaces Mr. C. Sorrenson, who did not seek re-election.
