ADDINGTON MAliliET* Christehureli, May S. At the Addington live stock market to-day the emiies of almost all classes of stock were large, and there, was a numerous attendance. Prime fat cattle maintained Yheir values. Store sheep again sold well, and fat lanrbs were firm at the previous week's rates* Prime fat wethers were firm and good ewes also sold well, but inferior sorts were easier. There was again practically no sale "for store cattle, but dairy cows were in good demand. Pigs of all classes were firmer.

There was a large yarding of store sheep and good competition for all classes, lambs and breeding ewes being in demand, but wethers if anything were a shade easier. Wethers sold at 13/0 to 17/, young ewes 15/ to 17/. sound •mouth 10/ to 14/4, lambs 8/0 to 13/9. The fat lamb pens were well filled, tile quality being chiefly prime. AH lots fit for freezing met with good competition, and there was practically no change in values. A few extra prime heavy weights made 24/7 to 25/3, tegs 18/(1 ito 23/0, standard weights 15/ to 18/, and lighter sorts 12/ to 14/0.

There was a large mixed yarding tf fat sheep, of which a large portion was not well finished, fixtra prime wethers sold up to 34/, prime li)/ to 23/0, lighter 17/ to IS/0, prime ewes 17/ to 20/, medium 14/0 to 10/ li. and aged 22/ to 24/.

The entry of fat cattle totalled 31S head, and included some prime lines of heavy weights steers and liglt.weight heifers.

There was a fairly active demand for prime beef, and last week's rates were fully maintained. Among the sales were : For D. Rutherford (Leslie Hills) 14 steers £0 5 to £ll 7/0, 8 heifers .£6 2/0 to £8 2/0, G, Rutherford (Hawwarden), 0 steers £8 17/0 lo £0 5/: A. Birdling (Lansdowne), 14 steers £7 10/ to £ll 2/0. Other steers made £C 10/ to £ll 17/0, heifers £5 o/ to £8 2/fi, and cows £4 10/ to £7 5/, tonal to 22/(i to 20/ for prime ami 20/ to 22/ for medium per 1001b. A large yarding of veal calves sold well, prices ranging from 5/ to 00/, according to siz' and qualhy. The yarding of pigs was rather smaller than usual, and fats showed a rise in price, while stores also met with a better demand. Baconers made 40/ to 00/ and up to GO/ for heavyweights, equal to 4</ 2 d to 4%d per lb; porkers 30/ to 40/, equal to id to 5%d per lb; large stores 20/ to 27/; medium 14/ to 19/; wcauers 8/ to 12/. and smaller 3/ lo 7/0. THE WOOL .MARKET

Reviewing the clo*o of tin- last sales on Stlii March, an expert correspondent of the Financial Times said:—Another series of wool sales is just lini-hing, anil it. has heen a first elass lime for growera of the raw material, for the expected fall which many thought would occur in March has again failed io come oil. it can safely he said that until stocks begin to accumulate, or something of an unseen nature happens, prices will not ho. lower. At tiie Same time it is perhaps as well vo utter a word of caution, values being considered hy many people all about at top. The .series under review has been characterise,! hy exceedingly good competition throughout, and all the offering- were never more keenly and per-istentlv competed for. Prices do not show a very great deal of difference when compared with January, but, if anything, all good wools have gone in sellers' favor. The one leading feature has been a readiness to buy on the part of all sections clearly proving that the industry is still enjoying a remarkable degree of prosperity. France, as is well known, has not bougit as liberally in Australia as last season, consequently tine-haired descriptions have received a good deal of support from the French. The Herman buying came as a surprise to many pcople ; but buyers from that quarter express strong confidence that all the wools available will be wanted. Every description of wool has old very freely indeed, brokers having no need whatever to force things on the market. Many are if opinion that for the lime being, ;'t least, prices are about at the top, and they prefer to get through their direct purchases and those made in London before forcing a stronger place. It 's. indeed, questionable if il is wise tii shape a policy which means higher values, for I am of the opinion that price are high enough. Australia is enjoying again another excellent season, which makes it absolutely certain that the clip of 1907-8 will be a record one. Fine wools are undoubtedly the favored article both at Home and abroad, but it seems to many that, with a little patience, there will be enough wool to meet the requirements of machinery until the next Australian dip becomes available.

CrOSsbreds have sold very readily throughout the series, but prices, except for deep-grown, long-stapled bright sorts, are no more than they were in January. Consumption here, is very healthy, and the outlook is fairly good. A good 40's top is still available in Bradford at 17% d to 17% d, and the-e can be made at a profit. The outlook is encouraging simply because, trade is excellent, but in view of the situation in America the financial aspect needs to be carefully watched.
