The annual meeting of the Taratu lu';neli of ihe Farmers' t'uiou was held in the local hall on Saturday. May 4th. There wii* a good lmisler of member*. Mr I'. Virgin, ehairinan and .s-cri'tarv, presided. The balance sheet was rea.l and adopted, and showed a credit balance of C 7 8s lid. On April B*ll, the sum of .t-t 4s was-forwarded m the provincial secretary, leaving an actual balance on : lie year's working of CS 4s (id. The number of members oil the roll ait prc-ent is ■-!. I. of whom l'.l had paid their subs, on -March notli, ail increase of membership on the preceding year of live. This was considered satisfactory. Inn it was hoped, and there are indications, that the membership will lie still further increased during the ensuing year. A vote of thanks was passed, aml the secretary instructed to convey I he siine to Mr \V. T. .leiiuing-. .M.IMf.. for his help a : the retpieH of ihe branch in getting Mr F. M. Stamlisli appointed lo the Commission of the IVace. The na'c". ing then proceeded to ele(\ otiicers and committee for the ensuing yen'. On the motion of .Mr A. l'aynter, seconded by .Mr (1. 1!. Smith, .Mr F. .1. \'irgin was reelected chairman nnd lion. See.; committee, Messrs R liishell, T. Ciiauney, ,1. \V. Grieve, (,'. tbiustad, E. A. Marshall, A. l'ayiuer and (i. 1!. Smith; auditor, Jlr It. Patterson, wnr.; delegate to Frovineiiil Conference at New I'ly.J mouth, Mr F. J. Virgin. The order paper for the Provincial Conference was then "discussed at some length, so as to give tlie delegate ail indiea.ion of the feeling of the branch on the various remits. It was unanimously decided that the sum of 2s be forwarded to • the provincial secretary as a donation to the Land Bill campaign fund. Mr J. W. Grieve brought up the subject of the spread of pennyroyal along the main roads. Tile secretary was instructed to write to the Taranaki County Council calling iheir attention lo the spread of pennyroyal along the Tariki and Junction roads, and suggesting that the weed be placed on the list of noxious weeds for the district. From a small patch a few years ago, it can now be found in many places from Tariki to Tarata.
