EXHIBITNON ORCHESTRA.
It is 110 mere platitude to any that the Exhibition Orchestra concert, given at New Plymouth last evening, was the finest of its kind ever heard in the town. It was a huge musical feast, nnd the large number present, it is safe to say, went away at the eonclusion of the concert more than satisfied with the wealth of the harmony provided. As the whole of the members of the orchestra had been playing together for many months past, it can readily be understood that the sympathy of expression between the players was as perfect as possible, the ell'ect being a revelation to lovers of classical music. The soloists, as might be expected of such' a combination, were musicians of high attainment, and a treat in themselves. Mr. John Prouse, in his songs, showed what could lie accomplished by a highly-cultured baritone voice. ] lis efforts received jnost hearty and deserved applause. The orchestra was under the direction of Mr. Alfred Hill, the well-known composer, and should have a successful tour in the north, as they undoubtedly merit.
