SCIENCE AND RABBIT EXTERMINATION.
SUCCESS OP DR. DAXVSZ'S EXPERIMENTS.
Received 3rd, 12.40 a.m. Sydney, May 2. Dr. Danysz has submitted" his report to the Pastures' Board on his experiments with rabbit virus. The experiment of contagion show 72 infected rabbits died, and gave the disease to i!) 3 out of 30!) healthy rabbits. Spots where infected rabbits have lived and died remain infectious for a certain time. An important feature is that lie was unable to obtain on iiroughton Island the infection of "lump nose," which is the most 'nntagious form. This form was obtained'in the laboratory of the Board of Health at Sydney, so it is concluded that Hie special climatic conditions on the island prevented the appearance id' this torm. 'I lie direct infection of rabbits experiments prove that this is easily accomplished by putting a certain ouantity of virus in water in the proportion of one pint of broth to two or three gallons of water, renewing it ever;, day. Several tons of virus could be made per week, or even per day, in a properly-ap-pointed laboratory. About tell pints of virus would sullice for a thousand acres. The question of immunity of other animals was left to Dr. Tidswell, who was appointed by the Commonwealth Government, but Dr. Danysz satisiied himself on the point, and his experiments fully justified (lie opinion he held that the virus was dangerous only to rabbits.
