FIRE AT DURHAM ROAD.
On Friday evening last the rollection of lire caused those attending a dunce ill the Durham road school to investigate tlie cause, when it was discovered that Ihe residence of Mr. doe Dodunski was alight. .Notwithstanding that horses were used by a number to get at the scene, it was found that, with the exception of a few pieces of furniture, it was impossible to save anything. It appears that the occupants h.ul a very narrow escape of being burned (o ilealli. Mrs. Duilmiski stated' that the infant awakened her, as usual, by wan. ing a drinlc, when she noticed the room lull of smoke. Mr. Dodunski had considerable .trouble in rousing his neighbor across the road, but was'assisted by the howling and harking of dogs and other noises made by frightened animals, and when Mr. lingulsky and Mr. .Anderson got over to Hie scene they tried every means to check the tire. Mr. Dodunski simple had lime io get out sonie cloth's and bedding through the window. Those arj riving from the school could but assist in getting a few pieces! of furniture, and then bad to stand and w.i'.di (h:; buildin},' being destroyed. A d.ul of bard work was necessary to prevent a large outside building from gelling alright. The Irnce was a substantially-built one, of five nionis, and was of matai throughout, and well furnished. I understand it is insured for tl."i(), but 1 could not uncertain in what ollice; the furniture also is insured for CSO. Mr. Dodunski is a cousiilerahh' loser, as a lot of valuable wedding presents, articles hard to replace, were amongst the things destroved.
