Wc are authorised by Mr. J. 11 Roy to state that he will not he a candidate at the approaching bye-election. Mr. Chaw. Ahier has been approached, and asked to contest, the seat in tiie Liberal interest. Jle will give a definite reply in the course of a lew days. Mr. S. Hill is "mentioned'' in some quarters as a likely aspirant for political honors.
The position regarding the Liberal candidate for lite sriit is still unsettled. Those in tiie tiekl arc .Mr \V. (i. Malone, ill' C. Bcllringcr, Mr K. Dockrill ami .Mr >S. Smith (son of the lute Member). 'Jne two former lire .slated to be out ileliii' ilely, but it is given to us on reliable authority that the two latter penilemen, rather than jeopardise the seat for the tiovcrnincnt, )mve placed themselves in tlie hands of the Party for Selection, and in the event of either not Jbeing cliofcn will retire iu favor of the Party's nominee. There seems to be little likelihood ot having a straight-out issue.
