MUSIC BY "WIRELESS."
New York. March 7. Dr. De Forest whose system of wireless telegraphy has been adopted by the American Government, yesterday gave an interesting demonstration of a new invention whereby music and conversations can be transmitted by "wireless." Tl»e listeners, who were in the Hotel Normandic, distinctly heard an orchestra which was playing in Telharmonie Hall, several streets distant. The human voice was reproduced with startling fidelity and a conversation between two men transmitted with such clearness that it seemed as though the men were in the same room as the listeners. A curious feature of the demonstration was the accidental reproduction of signals made by a "wireless" operator on an incoming liner, miles away. The ship's instruments happened to be tuned exactly the same as the He Forest instrument in the hotel. Dr. De Forest uses an oscillator of enormously high frequency. He says the 'invention is not likely to become of commercial value.
