A BURGLARY CASE.
Per Press Association. Dnneilin, April 17. Before .Mr. C. (.!. (Irahani, S.M., at the Police Court this morning, Ceorge Stanlev Sharp was charged, that between August 1 ami October 2fl, HUMS, he did break and enter the premises of James Unit ray and Sons, and steal therefrom lIS boxes of cigarettes and two boxes of tobacco; valued at ,-CilO ,12s Bd. Chief Detective Herbert asked permission to add to the information 001b, of tin Havelock tobacco, valued at C2O ss. Chief Detective Herbert said that accused, through his solicitor, had intimated that at the proper time he was prepared to admit having received tobacco but denied having committed the major oll'eiice of breaking anil entering. His solicitor was aware of these admissions, and nt the Supreme Court he understood that licensed proposed to plead guilty to the count of receiving. Acting-Detective Hunt stated that on March 20 last he met accused. There was then in existence a warrant for his arrest on the present charge, lie said then that he had retained to,get a cigarette business! cleared up, and asked if witness could advise him what was best to do. Witness said he could not advise him, but told him to come along to the detective oilier. On arrival there he had made a statement which witness took down in writing. Evidence was given by other witnesses. Accused reserved his defence, and was committed for trial.
