The proposed demonstration at the Birth.lay well is hung up pending the arrival of a new engiue from Wellington for the pumping operations. J.t is expected, however, that the work of cleaning the bore will be completed within a month. Work at the remaining bores is proeeuling apace. A communication lias been received by the Taranaki Petroleum Company from a syndicate in another part of the colony, a>kiug on wlwt terms the company will allot the balance of its contributing shares to the syndicate. The total number of contributing shares is 01,(100. Of these, 24,0110 are being held in reseive until a general meeting of shareholders decides upon their issue, ami have been sold, '{'he balance j is 9114 shares. The directors of the eom- ! pnnv met 011 Tuesday evening and decided to place 5000 of these shares nndei olfcr to the syndicate for a fortnight only. The terms are to be the same as are offered to brokers.
