OAKURA. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Oakura Koad" Board was held In the hall on Wednesday evening hist. Present: Me-svs Mace, Corkill, liniH and .Morris (chairman). Corespondent! l was read from the Taranaki County Council re formation of Dixon street. From the Treasury, refusing a loan fur metalling Carrington road on the security oll'ered (thirds), and, from the Government notifying the Board that Thursday was declared the public half-holiday for the district. It was resolved that lenders be ca'llcd for carting out broken stone on Plymouth road. The action of tiie chairman re Surrey 11 ill road, Oakura, was continued. It was resolved that applications be invited for a surfaceman for Plymouth road. Accounts amounting to XI 18s Sd were passed for payment. K.ORU. A grand concert and dance was held on Monday evening for the purpose ol raising funds for the erection of a shelter shed ai the Koru school for the children. It proved n great success. Mr T. Sweeting and Miss lteid I teacher) and other members of Hie committee had been working bald in organising the concert, and are to be congratulated on the success ■■that crowned their efforts on .Monday night. The following programme was gone through:—Piano selection, Miss Adlam; "Pigeon House and Peek-a-boo,' children; song, "Nobody," Mr E. lVnwarden; recitation, "Holly's Doctor,'' children; song, "My Old Home," Miss Pearson; "Daddy's Letter,'' children; song, "Topsy Turvy," children; song, "Anchored," Mr E. Putt; song, "Close vour Dreamy Eyes," schoolgirls; quar ti'tte, "Ring the J3oll Watchman," Misses Hartlett, Reid, and Mr E. Penwarden; song, "The Pardon Came Too I Late," Mr Hill; song, "Six dolly Tars," boys; song, "The Romany Lass," Mr E. Putt; song, "1 want to be a sold Mr.;," Master G. Smart; song, "Fairies," schoolgirls. At the conclusion of Hie concert Mr G. A. Allium, a member of the Education Board, addressed the assemblage, lie said it gave uini great pleasure, to be present at a social gathering that was organised in the interests of the children. Ue dwelt on the necessity for educating the litllo ones, so that they should not labor under the same disadvantage, as their fathers when they commenced to grapple with the difficulties of the world on their pwn account. He [thanked those present who had taken so keen an inteivGt in the children, and concluded a most instructive address by calling three c.luicrs for the teacher (.Miss Re:d).t jl'l'liose {present. Kosw and rclui'iied the compliment to the speaker. Mr Haxtou and Mr Sweeting also returiuil thanks the latter stating that they now lvid £7 lbs in hand which would help to erect the shelter shed at the school. The hall was then cleared for dancing, which was kept until 2 a.m., Mr Haxton acting as M.C. The music was supplied by Miss Roid and MeSM-s D. Patterson and W. Meredith. The supper arrangements were under the able management of Mesdames Sweeting Pearson, and Misses Julian and Haxton. I hear that Mr W. Jell'ery has SoM> out his farm on the Plymouth road to Mr Cholwill Billing, of thq Frankley road, and Mr'F. Stewart has taken over the Koru sawmilling plant.
