RAILWAY EXTENSIONS.
Per Press Association. Punedln, April 2. The section of the Oiago Central line from Alexandra to Civile was opened to-day by the Acting-Premier, u large party leaving Dunedin this morning to 'attend Hie ceremony. Alexandra was reached at 2.55 p.m. Here the Mayor and a great crowd welcomed the Ministers. The, Hon. Mr Hall-Jones mnile a short speech, congratulating tho residents. The party arrived at Clyde nt 3.-i"> o'clock. ■ A big crow|l gave tho party a great reception, cheering heartily. The opening eorejnony passed oil' most successfully. In the course of his speech, Mr Hall-Jones,' referring to a question of further extension, said if he were to speak to them in confidence he would say that the lino would MO on beyond Clyde. The views of the people concerned and his own opinion* would he placed before Cabinet, and. T'iiblnet would make a recommendation. to Parliament. _«. -*
