PETROLEUM NEWS.
The Directors of the Taranaki Petroleum Co, Ltd., having received a cable that for reasons beyond their control the Canadian export had not yijt left Vancouver (although he now leaves by the lirst boat) decided that they were justified in having a trial run of 'the oil, to be open to their shareholders. For this purpose they had the necessary pipes, taps, etc,, iixed, and tested on Thursday morning, when p apl the, Dl-J rectors being present, the oil was turned, on, and some ten barrels were very speedily tilled, but, owing to the enormous pressure of gas with tho oil, the best results were not obtained. The time taken to fiil a 42-gallon cask was 2 minutes nine seconds and two casks tilling simultaneously oil the one pipe took live minutes, but it must be borne in mind that a long length of I inch pipe with numerous bends and connections had to be used which naturally contracted the How. After run ning off the) ten barrels tho pressure seemed to increase, in addition to which the bore burst out through the temporary fixings and was still running when the Directors left. The temporary appliances at the command of tho, directors were not quite efficient, but improvements suggested |iy ihe experience gained on Thursday morning, will bci. put in hand at once so as to be ready for a public demonstration to be held at an early date, which will be announced by advertisement, when shareholders may obtain admission by tickets obtained from the Secretary.
