PROVINCIAL NEWS.

MAKETAWA. (From Our Own Corespondent). Nothing startling to report in this part of the 'district, except, perhaps, the very heavy rains we have !>ccn experiencing off ami on. The Makctuwa Dairy Co.'s suppliers held n meeting at the factory on Tuesday evening last to consider the question of installing a cheese plant and taking up the manufacture of cheese" instead of butter. The chairman, MiJoe Brown, and the manager had been on a visit to various cheese factories recently, and the former gave the meeting some information gleaned through the visits to the JilVcrent localities. Notwithstanding a heap of arguments in favor of the alteration, the meeting overwhelmingly decided to stick to but-ler-making. Pessimists declare the suppliurs will regret their action, but, of course, that remains to lie proved. The Makcluwa factory, under the capuble managership of Mr (!. L Johnston, has always held a leading position as regards butter, and if there, i-. any virtue in a (irst-c!a-s, reliable article, it must in the long run result in benefit to the producer. There is no doubt, howqvor. that a radical change must come about as to the method of getting the article to the consumer, and it behoves directors of all factories to lay their heads together and devise some scheme for so doing, and until that is done, the dairying and frozen beef industries (the iife-blool of the colony) will always he n tluctnating quantity, (o-oporatioii and unanimity to one cud liotwecn factories would work wonders, and the quicker something is done in the mailer the better for ail.
