A GRUESOME FIND.
IVr Press Association. I'almerston North. March 22. The local police received wold Irom the N'.'wheivy telephone exchange th> morning that the dead body of a man had been discovered in an old and neglected wliare at ihc rear of Mr. Faire's property on the Newberry line. Constable Minogue was despatched to bring the body into the Morgue. On arrival, he found it lying in a bunk in a state of decomposition. The man evidently had been dead some days, his face being partially eaten by rats. As far as could be judged he was a man named John Dawson, a) 1 °ld age pensioner, but no one had seen him about the wliare, or visitin"" the place for a long time, and nothing definite could be gathered. The body would probably have lain undiscovered for an indefinite time, had not the unpleasant smell attracted the notice of passers-by. An inquest is to be held to-morrow.
