UJiLIiUATJiS' JiIiKTUJU AT ELTUAJI A meeting ui ilelejjutleS uf tli(j) Taranaki Provincial Retailers' Association was held at ElLhum on Xhuisday. The following delegate* were present; —Messrs Ekdafil and Hurrell (ltawera), Leech and \\ infield (Inglewood), Ward and Masters (Stratford), Adlam, McMillan and Enipson (ilaponga), Carman, Hill and Wilkinson (Eltham). Mr Carman Avas voted to the chair, and th<3 minutes of the previous meeting read and confirmed.
A draft of rules was submitted by the special committee to deal with. same.. After full discussion and various alterations the rules were adopted and again referred to a special [committee c/OW; sisting of Messrs Hill, Carman and Wilkinson, i'or literary revision, same to be submitted at the next meeting. The president returned thanks for his election to tlie position of lirst president of tlio Association, and hoped Unit the formation of tlioi Taranaki Provincial Retailers' Association would uplift the status of traders throughout' the province. There are many matters of interest to retailers that could be con served by the formation of the Association, one of the great questions being i lie position of wholesale houses doing retail business. This was an important matter aU'ccting practically every trader in the province, lie also very much regretted tlie fact 1 fiat. New Plymouth, the most important town in Taranaki, was absolutely unrepresented at the meeting; and, in fact, he understood that the New Plymouth local Association had collapsed. 51 r Leech returned thanks for being elcetejl to the position of tvico-]m'Md-| cut. He would do all in his power to furl her the interests of the Association, and particularly referred to the question of "bad marks" who made a business of moving from one town to another and getting credit from the different business people.
