VANCOUVER AXI) 'FRISCO SKRVICES. Melbourne, -March 20. Speaking with regard to the Vancouver service, the Federal PostmasterGeneral (Mr. Chapman) said there was the possibility of all unproved service trith a smaller service from Australia, and that end could be attained by bringing New Zealand into the service. It was not easy to say what would happen if the Sau Francisco service were discontinued. A suggestion had been made some time ago to transform the Vancouver and San Francisco into a four-weekly schedule at an accelerated speed; then if the two lines alternated they would have a regular fortnightly service, which would be equally valuable to Australia and New Zealand. Such a service might lead to a greatly increased business. The Union Company seemed most anxious to meet the Government, but the other companies were not so ready to compete for the carriage of mails.
