THE BESSES O' THE BARN BAND.
The well-known entrepreneurs, Messrs ■I. and IX'. Tail, in arranging for the famous Hesse, o' th' ilarn iSa'nd to visit Xew Plymouth will no doubt rap 'the reward of their enterprise in experiencing large attendances at the two concerts at the Theatre Koynl, and an openair performance at the Kecreat ion Grounds on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Immense audiences have been patronising the venture in the South. The attraction appeals to young and old of all classes, and the reputation gained by the Ucsscs by their wonderful playing apart from their supremacy over all other bands, has never before been equalled in the Colonies. The ■•Lytleltou 'Times" says :—'•There was a unanimity in the playing and such u regularity of tone and perfection of balance that the lirst almost irresistible impression was that there was no brass band but a sweet-toned organ, and even in the loud passages there was never a suggestion of ordinary brass band effect." in the varied programmes indulged in by the Dosses, a plentiful number of solos is given by the leading cornet, born, trombone, and euphonium players. The playing of that beautiful hvi'nu ''Lead Kindly Light," is described as having an exceedingly inspiring clfect. The presence, of Alexander Owen, the celebrated conductor, with the Hcsses mi this tour adds considerably to the attractiveness of the Besses' concerts. A great demand for reserved seats liar, taken place at the Dresden Piano Co., where seats may he reserved at ss.
