One hundred and thirty Australians returned from South Africa by the steamer Hymctcus. They confirm the worst that has been reported regarding the prevalent distress.
Trade is absolutely dead, and is daily getting worse. Kaffirs and Indians are getting work that formerly went to the whites, ihousands of whom are idle and leaving South Africa. Many are unable to get away owing to lack of funds.
