The weather for the last month has teen all that could be des red. is in abundance everywhere, and cattle are iooUing at their best. A large number of sheep, most.} - from the Soutn Island, has of laie been brought into the district. With a good winter and a fair lambing, the new arrivals should greatly increase the prosperity of the place.
A very enjoyable dance was held last Saturday evening, to b d farewell to .Mr Uicheno, schoolmaster of Whanga. Some 30 couples were present. .Muskwas supplied bv .Mr Thomas (piano) and .Mr .McDonald (violin). The spurts to he held at Kohurutalii on St. Patrick'* Day, laili inst., are looked forward to with great glee, and should Ihe weather prove line there should be a record attendance. A dance is to be held in the Kohuratahi Hail in the evenng. J hare now to report one of the most welcome events that, has I alien [dace here for years—that is that the W'hanga. Co-op. Dairy Co. has at lasl been released of its burden. At a meeting held on Saturday evening last to consider Mr J. McCluggage's offer to take over the whole concern, after a deal of discussion on the pros, and cons., a vote was laken which resulted in favor of the oiler. Jam Sure one and ail wish .Mr .McCluggnge the luck he deserves in coming to the re cue o! such a sinking ship, and I am sure he will spare no cll'ort to make the dairying a success in our district. I'.y all accounts the supply next .-oason should be, a record one. Mr McCluggago inleuds to erect at mice an up-to-date L
cheese factory on the present: site as so'on as the temporary factory has 1 finished with this season's milk, and he has given a guarantee of fld per 11). for butter-fat, for next season's milk. As the most the company cotiid pay out on butler was 7'/,d, Ihc change will mean a great thing lo the suppliers. As the bc-t dairying section here can be obtained for lis) per acre, it would be worth .the wlrle of buyers to take a trip in before they invest in other places at from £2O 'to £BO per acre. The winter months are so mild in here that so far very little winter feed has been required and that means a lot lo the dairy fanner. Mr Jack Met 'luggage is about again, and has resumed his usual occupation. March 12th.
A largely attended meeting of ralepayers was held at the Whanga Jhill on Monday evening to discuss the lion. Mr Hall-Jones' proposal re handing over the Ohura road to ihe Stratford County Council. The proposal came as a surprise to everyone, and more so after, the way (he Government has been supported in our district. The chairman, Mr. J. McCiuggagc, in opening, said in the past the Government had spent a considerable amount in the district, but the country had been settled so ijuickly, and the roading io be done had been of such a heavy nature, that there were still a number of settlers who practically had no road at all. He, however, was of opinion that a courteous resolution of protest should be framed. Mr McCutchen proposed and Mr G. N. Loughlin seconded—"That the settlers in the district of Whangamomona view with the greatest regret the contemplated intention of the Minister of Public Works to vest the Ohura road, or, rather, hand over a large portion, to the Stratford County Council, and we wi«h to convey to him that such uc-tion-i will bring disaster to a large number of small settlers, whose welfare has bad. in the past, solicitous attention from the Government." After a lot of discussion, the motion was carried. it was also resolved to ask Mr Symos ilo use! 'his hes|t endeavor to ni've effect to the resolution. i * The following •esolutions were also 'tarried:—"That the Stratford County Council be asked to schedule the accrued thirds on all roads in the Ohura Riding," and "That this meeting is desirous of going on with the proposed new countv, and instructs the committee, to take any action it may consider tit."
