DREADED FRUIT PEST.

Per Press Association. Hastings, March 11. The Qucnsland fruit 11/ has been discovered iu a pr.vate orchard on Napier Ilill. The liawke's Bay Fruitgrowers' Association has resolved to urge the Government to destroy all fruit on the Napier Hill as the only means of exterminating the pest, and also expressed the opinion that lite only chance of preserving the growing fruit industry was to prohibit the importation of fruit from fly-infested districts. Wellington, March 11. The Government experts are stated to be keenly alive to 'the necessity for prompt action concerning the d.scovery of Queensland fruit fly at Napier, and every step deemed necessary will be taken to prevent the spread of the tiy. It is believed the ily was first imported in a shipment of Australan fruit wfliilqh at Auckland in December or thereabouts.
