CRICKET

SECOND TEST MATCH. M.C.C. v. SEW ZEALAND. Per Press Association. Wellisutojt, March 0.

There was much better cricket to-day than on Friday, 322 runs being scored, against 245. Branston and Page re--.umed play, and ran up the score fast, and were not separated till 127 was reached. After them Do Traft'ord hit for a while and the innings closed at ISO. llpham and Fisher took all the tickets and had good averages. The fielding was not so good as it should have been, and this applies to the Englishmen as well. The wicket did not play at all well, and when New Zealand went in, Douglas, with his fiery deliveries, bumped so much that ne kept the batsmen in a continual st. ilc of alarm and did damage to some f them. Three wickets fell for 33, and ? lien the Aucklanders, Hemus and Haddon, made a useful stand for <lB Hie latter, with Williams, made a long stay, after being missed at 14, showing good form on the leg side, lint nothing S3 powerful as his pa-tuer. Eventually he was caught in the slips at 18S, and then the wickets fell faster, till by 6 o'clock 9 hud been got rid of. Wihiams, however, could not be shifted. In the last hour he scored very slowly, a blow on his arm evidently interfering with his freedom, but lie has 01) to his credit, and was largely responsible, after Haddon, foi the respectable total of 212. He had some luck in the field. The sum of £3OO has been taken at tlic gates so far, the attendance and weather being good. Scores; — M.C.C.—First Innings.
