SPOUTS OUJiUEBT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The concert and dance held after the sporis proved most successful. The hall was packed to its utmost limits, many having to be refused admittance. All excellent programme was presented, iilki performers coming from a.i' parts ol the district. The concert is generally admitted to be the best ever held nei'c, and was grcallv appreciated by the audience, although slightly marred by the conduct of a few at the back. During the evening, some of the trophies at the spoils were piesented. file following is the programme:—Overture, ".Silver JJcIl," Dueker's Orchestra. This was the first appearance here of this well-known orchestra, whose playing delighted the audience. ISolo, "Little Wooden Hut," Miss Pratt (encored); solo, "Lovei Leonore," Air Kelly; duet, humorous, "Yes, of eour-c." Messrs Gordon and lie I lows (encored); solo, "Uin a body," .Mrs Harrison; solo, "True till Death," Mr Larking; solo, "Who's dat knockat de Garden (late," Mrs Moeller; solo, "The .Mighty Deep," Mr Gordon; (in response to a double encore, this singer gave "A Parson went a-hunting" and a recitation); humoroiiß solo, "On the banks of the Wabash," Miss Cassie (encored); musical sketch, '-Why don't you get a Lady of your own," Messrs Gordon and Billows (encored); comic song, "Hachelors,"' Mr Putterson (encored) and '"The Lighthousekeeper"; overture, "Poet and Peasant," Ducker's orchestra; solo, ''Trespassing," Mrs Wright.; solo, "Iteiulies' Lyes," Miss Pratt, and in response to a double encore, "Bombay" and "Starlight"; solo, "Dorccn." Mr Gordon (encored); solo, "Believe," Miss Cassic (encored); Irish jig, Mr Duncan; solo, "Asleep 011 llie! Doep," Mr Lurking: solo, "Because i love you." Mr Kelly; comic song, "In a case like that," Mr Patterson (encored). Accompaniments iverc played by Mrs Ducker. and violin obligate liy Mr Ducker. Misses Little (violin obligalo by .Mr liillow-). Kensbcrry, an.l Messrs Knowjes, I;j,lows and (Jannell. A| the conclusion of the concert the hall was cleared for dancingj which was carried 011 Willi vigor till early morning, despite tin' crowded stale of the liali. Excellent music was provided by Messrs Know If, (piano) and Duncan (violin), whilst Mr Canned played an extra. Messrs Garcia, Fielder and Rothery acted as M.sC. Supper, provided by the commit tec, was handed round., and greatly appreciated. |

NOTES. Mr !i. Baker, one of the local eimipetitors at T.ronthain, lias returned. Messrs A. Philiips and J. Colmer, who also competed, have gone on to Chri»lchurch. Though not very successful, thoy all had an enjoyable tinie al the competition, anil have picked up considerable experience. Ml? Jacob Kothery, chairman of the Parihaka Koad Board, accompanied by Miss Kothery, is away oil a vMt to Christchurch. Mr Beg. Shaw met with a paini'ni accident whilst working at Mr Colmey's, winch resulted in an injury t<< his hand, and will prevent, him from workup for a few day.-.. Mr J. Lukin met with an accident on Wednesday niphi. Whilst riding j to the concert his hor-e fell. and threw I liiin. with the result that ho was iimcfi shaken.

During the dance, 100. the crowde! state oi the hall was very noticeable, The dancers hardly had standing room. The refreshment booth conducted at the sports bv Mrs Baker, of the Kiliotu hoarding house, was exceptionally well patronised this time, and if conducted by the same person next year will be even more so, as those present who were representative of the whole district say tliev have never seen a booth so well conducted. The menu was exce'lent, and the attention . good. I
