TEACHERS' INSTITUTE PICNIC
The New Plymouth branch of the Teachers' Institute held a picnic at Leppertou on Satued.iy last. Those teachers who live in and around New Plymouth left town in a brake, and after a delightful drive of twelve miles were met by llie teachers who had come by train from the southern part of the district. When the ground, an ideal spot surrounded by nativo bush, was reached, the ladies of the party set about preparing lunch, Mr Penliugton, headmaster of Lepperton, haying boiling water iu readiness. After lunch, all enjoyed a pleasant ramble through the bush, llien cricket and rounders were indulged in, the winning side having tlie privilege of getting afternoon tea ready. After tea, the reading of fortunes by a lady' palmist caused a great deal of fun and merriment. When three cheers had been given for Mr and Mrs Wlicatlcy, who kindly lent the grounds, and three for Mr and Mrs Penlingtou, the picnicers left for home, all voting that it was one of the pleasantest days they had spent for some time. The Teachers' Institute hope to make the picnic an annual | eyeut, and in this social way to give teachers a chance of becoming better acquainted with their follow workers.
