THE SURREY FATALITY.

The Coroner continued the enquiry to-day into tlic circumstances surrounding the death o£ Jan.cs Baird, a lumper, who was killed l>y falling down the hold of the steamer Surrey on the previous day. Evidence had been given of defects m the fore and aft beams, which supported the hatch coyers of No. 3 hold on which ISaird was standing when they collapsed The jury found that dccca;al was accidentally killed through falling oIT a fore and after which was either not in its right place or 100 short, and ;:lso from the want of a visible number on the combine fore and aft. The jury did not consider the stevedore- was to blame. The coroner said the (|uestion ot responsibility would probably arise in another Court, k ,
