Man, or most of him, is after all a puny thing, a frail structure of llesh and bone; and Nature, in its unreasonableness, gave to tho brute, strength and stature, fear k-ssness and wickedness, therewith to tight the battle of life, and well has he been equipped. Not a day passe, that we do not read or hear of instances of .shocking cruelty and mendacious wrong by these fearless animals, these embodiments of Nature's fiendish cruelty let loose upon this vale of trouble: and these are the villainous creatures .which weaklings persuade their intellects, rerjuire protection. ...
