Carroll and Messrs Ngata and Fraver addressed the natives assembled here, explaining the object of the Natives Lands Commission. ,J llc Native Appellate Court is still sitting here inquiring regarding the administration of certain native blocks under the Act of 18157, and whether the original grantees were merely trustees or owners. The decision will bo I important, as it will affect :i large aiv.: of native lands.

BIG CONCESSIONS TO FREEHOLUERS,
Wuaxoaeei, February 20 Tile Hon. K. McNab, in the course of a speech here last night, said ail land taken from large freehold estates would still retain the freehold, and those who got it have freehold rights. All native lands declared by the Commissioner to be surplus would be dealt with by legislation, and be disposed of under the freehold system, with favourable terms to buyers. j
FARMERS' UNION CAMPAIGN
Christcugbch, February 20.
At a meeting of the executive of the North Canterbury branch of the Farmers' Union to.day, a committee was appointed to arrange for a land campaign through Canterbury in support of the freehold.
