AN ADVERTISING CLAIM
At the S.M. ourt on Mondav defendants' evidence was taken in a case to be heard in Wellington, the claim of the New Zealand Times Company against ;the; Taranaki Ptetroh*un oil Comp, Limited, for !£49, cost of advertising by ,the Bompanjyfe (bro)ke>-s in Wellington. The defence was that the company had agreed to pay , through these brokers £75 for advertising, and that this having been paid, the company wan not liable for any further expense. Mr Kerr appeared for the plainlills and Mr Quilliam for defendants. David Laing, late aecretary to the company said no authority was given by the directors to plainlills to insert the advertisements. The company did not authorise any one else to incur advertising expenses.
