Hatters of importance are to be discussed. KOEU. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Oakura Road Hoard was held on Wednesday evening. Present: Messrs porkill, lluiil, Mace, Morris (chairman). Correspondence was read from the secretary of the Treasury, of the Land Hoard, and from settlers on the Upper L'arringdon Road re-loan proposal. It was resolved that application be made to the Government for £OOO for metalling the Upper Carrington road in aci cordance with the terms in the settlers' petition.
Mr Rail moved a motion standing in his name that the following schedule regulating the width of tires be added to itiic by-laws for all vehicles engaged in the heavy traffic: Waggon, four wheels, drawn by three horses, 5 inch lire; four horses, U inch tire; 5 horsui 7 inch tire, ti horses 8 inch tyre; 7 horses and over 10 inch tire. Two bullocks to be considered equal to one horse. Afta- hearing the evidence, the jury brought m the following verdict:—"That deceased accidentally met his death by his mount (Jean) -falling,iiind added the following riders:—"l. The jury strongly condemn the action of Mr J. Powers, the owner of Jean and deceased's employer, for not attending the inquest as requested. 2. The jury desired to express their deepest sympathy with deceiasqd's wife ami family." A subscription list was immediately -tailed on behalf 0 f Ca.uteil's wife and larnily (three young children), and met with good support, the sum of £2O being collected within an hour.
