KING'S COUNSEL

A NEW INSTITUTION FOit NEW, ZEALAND. Per Press Association. Wellintgon, January 26. The Covernnrent hus approved the proposal for appointing lawyers as King's counsel for the colony, and regulations connected therewith will shortly, be gazetted. The Chief Justice must concur in nil appointments, and it is provided that 'except when acting for the Crown His Majesty's counsel shall not appear in the Supreme Court or the Court of Appeal unless a junior from outside his own ollice appears with him, nor in any, inferior Court unless upon a special retainer and feo of at least 'ten guineas. The fee for the patent is live guineas, and a license fee of ona guinea to appear against the Crown in eases in which His Majesty's counI sel is dispensed with.
