POLITICAL RIOT IN A PRISON.
Lisbon, December 5. A remarkable political riot took place at the Setubal convict prison today between two factions of prisoners. The inmates were divided into Monarchist and Republican groups, an,l the bitterness between them was so great that the force of infantry stationed at tlie prison was unable to preserve order. The climax was reached this iiiontnig when the Republicans, by way ol
revenge for sundry attacks by their opponents, set lire to the dormiuuy of the Monarchists. The building was soon a mass oi (lames, notwithtanding Ihe prompt arrival of the warders and soldiers Willi lire apparatus. While they fought the lire the ex ultant Republicans sang Republican songs, and jeered at the "hourless'' opponents. The refractory prNoneis were not subdued until they had been thoroughly drenched with water from live lines of hose. A number of them were wounded m encounters with the opposing faction.
