BENVOLENT FUNDS MISAPPROPRIATION.

Ingram, an employee of Te Aro House, who is charged with aiding and abetting Purvis, late Secretary to the Benevolent Trustees, in the alleged misappropriation of fund* of the trustees by means of incorrect invoices, has been committed for trial. He pleaded not guilty. 'Wellington, January 21. Alexander Wait Purvis, ex-Secretary of tke Wellington Benevolent Trustees, was charged before the Stipendiary Magistrate to-day with the theft of various sums ot money from the trustees. David Robertson, ex-Chairman of the Board, said Purvis had no authority to use the funds of the trustees to discharge private accounts. One of tke trustees keld £l5O, received from Purvis to cover the amount of the deficiency. The alleged defalcations were £l3O. A.T. Clarke, accountant, repeated tke evidence given by him m tke case aeainst Ingram, of Xe Ar.o House, The transfers from the trustees' account to Purvis' account were not all included in the present charges. Detective Williams, who arrested Purvis, said the latter remarked " Yes, I knew it was coming lam not alone in tkis. lam the tool of tke To Aro House lot." Accused tkeu pleaded guilty, and was committed to tke Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was allowed.
