The weather to-night is decidedly wintry, AstiiiuiiTOK, January 15. Tlicro was a slight fall of rain throughout Ashburton county on [Wednesday night. Thursday was a line day, but welcome showers recommenced about !) ;i0 p.m. on tlio same eyemng, and continued until 5,60 a.m. this morning, when tlio weather showed signs of eloarmg. During the night, some very heavy showers had fallen, wliieh will do immense good to pastures, rape and turnip crops. This forenoon, however, there was ail abrupt change, the temperature falling considerably, ami towards evening, after several southerly showers, a very heavy and sleety hailstorm occurred, lasting for more than an hour. The atmospheric conditions arc still threatening.
Wellington, January 18. The weather changed considerably to-day. A strong southerly breeze has been blowing all day, and to-night it is distinctly cold.
A dei-.idsdly cold snap set in locally yojlerday afternoon, the southerly wind oil tlie mountain necessitating a quick change into winter garments.
