EVIDENCE BEFORE INTER. STATJi COMMISSION. Nj!W Yokk, January 7. _ The Inter-State Commerce Commission, in the course of enquiry at New York into railway matters, elicited that the unlimited powers of Mr E. H.
Ilarriman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Northern Securities Company, had enabled kiin to purchase iiiu.JUU/IMO worth of stock of other railways, and that he used enormous funds as ho liked. The Inter-Stato Commerce Commission, during inquiries at Washington, as to railway disasters, obtained evidence which showed inefficient, management and recklessness on the part of employees. One witness worked sixty (?) hours with eight for deep. Those cases in which men worked twenty-four hours continuously wore not uncommon. OoDgress will limit the hours of continuous labour to sixteen.
