DARING BURGLARY AT ELTHAM

HOTEL SAFE Ell'l^D,

Oil Sunday night a during robberv whs perpetrated in tl lL . Coronation Hotel, Ellkam, says the "Argus.'' Mr R H. Campbell, tho proctor, wont to bod at (lie usual hour, aHer seeing that everything was in order.

He placed his trousers containing the keys of the sale, on a small table m his bedroom, but when lio got up this morning the trousers were missing. A search was made and ultimately they were found in the oliice in which

the safe in. The safe was open, and it is estimated that a sum of at least £SO in single notes had been abstracted. Apparently the thief was disturbed

while engaged m the robbery, because a further largo sum remained m the safe. The money that was not taken included a number uf cheques. Several packets of sovereigns also remained untouched. All tho circumstances point to the fact that the thief had an

intimate knowledge of the house, and the amount of daring audacity he displayed may be judged from the fact that the trousers, m the pocket of which the keys were, lay only about six inches from Mr Campbell's pillow.
