Tii it.. \Y. J. Clare wrote notifying that he had made the necessary repairs to the Ngatara bridge. Tarata Road. Foreman il. J. Jones re[iorled that a culvert near the Salisbury Eoad was in a bad way. It could re renewed lor about .U22. Foreman K. Moore. Oakura, reported that he had been engaged putting metal on worn portion of the road, ile also slated that the bridge had lieen kept in good repair. Foreman Xvctts. Omata Killing, reported that the roads were in fair order, fie, with two other men, had been engaged for a fortnight putting a bank across at the Tarmac, which lie considered would hold the lining safe. He advising that the small tunnel bo lowered '2 or 3 feet to help to cany away water in case of an extraordinary Hood or the large tunnel becoming blocked.—Resolved that Foreman -.Moore be instructed to construct the approach to the I'etiuo Kond (oil' South lload) and that Cr. Ac I lam attend the same.
Foreman C. Walker, Jlna Hiding, reported having arranged with 11 r Jordon for a stone depot.—An acre could l)e secured for a rental of £3 a vear.
Foreman J. Holmes, Waitara Riding, reported having repaired bridges in liis riding, and that 4o chains on the Richmond road were metalled; 3"> chains got into a very bad condition in winter.
.1. Skinner. County Engineer, reported that Waiongona a nd Maketehiuu bridge contracts were proceeding satisfactorily. The Xapuae hill contract, was also being carried on expeditiously Had prepared plans and specifications for a ferro concrete bridge over the Oakura. river. The span (01 feet) was a particularly long one for the class of structure, and he had made it very strong in consequence. Plans for a feno concrete bridge for Waipukuiti stream were also ready. The wood culvert near .Norfolk Road was unsafe and should he said, be renewed with concrete, at a cost not exceeding £75.
From 11. Warren, Auroa, requesting 1 that the remainder of dog (ax deposit ( £10) be refunded him.—Agreed to. From the Oakura lioad Board, requesting that Council make approach to Dixon Road.—Resolved that when the Dixon lioad is completed the Council will deal with the work required. From the secretary Harbour Board, stating that the 'request of the Council that lupins be cut back on the Breakwater road, would be attended to as soon as possible. From Simons and Jones, requesting permission to place a landing over drain on Tariki lioad.—Kcsolved that the request he granted, provided that a deposit of Xo be made, to be retained until such time as all obstacles arc removed from the road.
From the Chief Engineer, Department of ltoads, in reply to Council's letter, enquiring if any moneys are available for Junction and Tariki lioad*, and stating that there were no funds available.—Kcsolved that the matter re Tariki Road grant be left iu the hands of the Chairman. The Chairman's action in arranging with \Y. J. Clare, for repairs Xgalura bridge was approved of, as was the Chairman's action in arranging the transfer of contract. The Chairman gave a detailed report of the work on various roads and made recommendations lor small works to be done at various places in the County. At Tapuac the work was going along satisfactorily. The following tenders were dealt with:— Waiwakaiho bridge: Turnerand Beadle, £218" (accepted); Pikett and Wilkie, £3050; JJoon Bros. £3333; A. Clill'., £5870; Spencer, £3180; E. Sangster, £3519. Contract 59, 100 yds boulders—Richiirdson and Co., 2s 3d (accepted); H. James, 2s 7d; Moyce, 2s B</.d; J. Tarry, 2s lid.
