It attempted to jump a gate, brft fell and broke its neck. * Two tligK mishaps occurred to farmers whiist driving to the Oaonui factory Isst week. The axle of Mr Lusk's trap broke, whilst Mr White's horse fffl whilst going down a hill and broke both shafts. Fortunately no further damage was done to cither occupants or cdntents. Some of the suppliers of the Oaonui factory are agitating with s view to getting a cheese plant installed next season. Cheese factories arc at present paying their suppliers a much higher price per lb of butter-fat than batter factories are, and there seems no reason why a cheese factory in this district should not be a success. Of course tee cost of installing one is great, but if the price keeps up it should soon pay for itself. At a meeting of the Sports Committee last Saturday it was decided to hold the local sports on March 6th, as Oaonui are holding their's on February 20tb. A ground committee was appointed. Mr H. A. Mills was appointed auditor, and handicappeis were appointed as follows:—llluming. F. Bennie; chopping, F. Harding; local events (running, chopping, cycling); Messrs H. A. Mills, W. Duggan and J. Phillips. At a meeting of the Parihaka Road Board on Saturday, there were three applications for the position of ranger, and Mr W. J. Atkinson was duly appointed. It was decided to c ill tenders for certain work on the Xgariki road, and to take necessary steps in connection with raising a loan on the Upper Puniho road. Wages accounts to date were passed for payment. The natives about here had a most successful day eel fishing on Sunday. Some of them had some very big catches, one eel caught weighing 15 pounds.
