OPUNAKE.
From Our Own Correspondent. In your report of the West Coast Schools' Sports, the points gained by the various schools are .in-, correctly. They should read: Opunake 27 point?, Pihania 23, Te kiri 21, Awatuna 13, Oaonui !>, Convent !>. Hie s.s. Muritai arrived here on Friday and discharged cargo on Saturday. Her arrival was anxiously looked forward lo as she carried a fair cargo of Christmas goods The New Plymouth* coach was about an hour late reaching here on Saturday, owing to the excessive traffic connected with the holiday season. The local schools broke up for the holidays on Friday Prior to breaking up the annual prizes were presented to the children by the Chairman Jilr Geo Looney), in the presence of a large gathering of parents and ! friends. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies and banded around and
enjoyed. Local Tradespeople all seemed well satisfied with trade this Christmas. Although we are right on the sea coast and fish are fairly plentiful about here, yet it is very seldom that fish are obtained in the town. Occasionally when the steamer arrives at night time the crew indulge in fishing and get a fair haul, which sell very readily. Last Friday night the crew of the Muritai caught a number of fine schnapper, which were disposed of in a very littie while at the jetty. j There should be a good opening for a fishing boat here.
