Dosedis, December 26. Capital weather prevailed for the holiday on Tuesday. To-day rain fell in the morning, but tho afternoon was bright though gustv. On both days, sports meetings wrre hold at different places, drawng a considerable uumb:r of people from the city. Tno regatta at Port Chalmers to-day was very largely attended. Nkisos, December 26. The holidays have passed off yery pleasantly, the weather being good and there have been considerable numbers of visitors in town.

The general prosperity of Taranaki was reflected in the whole-hearted way in which its .people celebrated the festive season. Large crowds of people Hocked into town, and it is many a day since New Plymouth prosontad a more animated appearance than on Xmas Eve. The shops were dressed in a manner in keeping with the town's claim to be the chief business centre of Taranaki, and in decoration and ornamentation the shop fronts quite held their own with any town of similar size in the colony. l?ecord business is also reported from all the provincial ! towns. Xmas Day was marked by oxlueptioal heat for Northern Taranaki, but tho church services were, never- j tlielcss, well patronised The clerk of the weather was in very gracious mood for Boxing Day, and though a trifle warm the atmospheric conditions were conducive to outdoor amusements. The morning trams were crowded to excess with holiday makers—mostly bent on a day's racing, but the beach, the Sec. and tho other attractive resorts of the town each had its quota of followers, while largo numbers went into the country.
