A stnko occurred this morning on ilic City Corporation work of converting a hill and gully into what is known is Keiburno Park. A number of navvies demanded 9s a day instead of Ss, claiming that 9s is the rate paid by private contractors. According to the men 72 declined to wcrk when the re■juest was refused, but the Engineer says between forty and fifty bA o«t. 0 f 34 engaged, 'luosl of those remaining are doing a special class of work, for >vhich they got 9s. The Engineer <ays the strike will cause delay, but not a serious one.
