The Premier received deputations to-day asking for grants in aid of the new Old People's Home, now being erected at Parke Island; a chronic or convalescent ward for the Napier Hospital; the transfer to the borough Uouucil of a small strip of land adjoining the Napier Athenaeum; alteralioh iu the railway service, and the jxemption of tieinde Island from the provisions of the Public Works Act ,vith regard to the width of streets. in an interview with the Press, he iaid the Government had purchased in lawko's bay 14 estates under th jauds for Settlement Act, comprising ui area of 1;2D,U00 acres, at a cost of £71i(i,433, and they have expended £34,533 in reading them. In the evening he attended the prize istribution of tlie Native High KcUool, there Lady Ward distributed .the uizes. In a short speech, he referred .0 the importance of the school cadet noveineuc, and also said he hoped to ;ee "Esperanto" taught in all the public schools of the colony. He leaves to-uioriw morning for Wellington.
