Mr Frank Poland, having been appointed manager of the Old People's Home, has resigned his position as custodian of the municipal saltwater baths. The swimmers will regret his decision and the Borough Council will lose an excellent servant. Sir John Clorst gave a farewell luncheon at the Grand Hotel, Auckland yesterday, and in the evening, aecom panied by Miss Gorst, he left for Syd ney, proceeding thence to Melbourne where he will be the guest of the Go vernor for ten days. From Mel bourne he proceeds via Suez to Egypt. —Press wire.
Mr J. H. lies, who is directing the world's tour of the Besses of the Barn •Band and is also editor of the "British Bandsman" and the "Orchestral Times," passes through New Plymouth this morning in company with Mr G. Owing to pressing family matters, the Rev. W. E. Woolley has resigned the pastorate of the Gill-street Baptist Church, and will probably leave for Auckland about the end of the 3'ear. At a meeting of the church committee last night, the resignation was accepted wilh regret. llr Wool-
