At the Council meeting yesterday, the chairman sfiiil that Mr Poynton had informed liiin personally lhat lie would only jiay' on Parliament authorising the payment. lie suggested holding a conference of delegates from the whole of the Taranaki counties to deal with this cjuestiwi, which was a very serious 011 c. The natives had some of the best lauds ill the district, they were nilly occupied and producing, and the natives were using the good roadsmade without contributing a penny towards the revenue lor the upkeep of the roads. Surely | if these facts were placed before the Premier, redress and justice would be obtained.
It was decided to communicate with the various county councils asking them to appoint delegates to a conference to discuss this question, and also to take into consideration the model by-laws sub.iuitted by the Oovcrnnient.
