Jan. 1 and 2—Rangitikei RC. Sum mer Meeting. WAITARA RACES. The Waitara Racing Club were favoured with perfect weather and a large attendance at their annual race meeting yesterday. Speculation was very brisk throughout the day, and the" financial result of the meeting should be very satisfactory to the club. Two protests were heard during the day, which is the first time such a thing has happened for many years; that, however, does not sugnify that there has been no need for so'calling the stewards together at previous meetings of the club. Mr A. W. Budge acted as starter, in which capacity he was fairly successful. The Waitara Band enlivened the proceedings with music at intervals during the day. Cochrane on fattpo got a good start and entered the straight with a strong lead, although Inaha made a hold bid to catch the Clias-eur gelding.
