BRITAIN'S FAST TRAINS.
There are sixty-one trains on British railways that are scheduled trun at more than fifty-six miles an hour from start to stop. Accordidg ta the "Railway Gazette," the lines contributing to the total are the North-Western, Great Western, Midland, Great Central. North Eastern, G"«at Northern, Caledonian and Hul. and Barnsley. The fastest run is made by the North-Eastern between Darlington and York, 44J mdes in 43 minutes, errua". to 61-7 miles an hour the Caledo lian coming second '>vith two iuus from Forfar to Perth, 324 mi*s in 3: minutes, or 60.9 miles an hour. The Great Central has the largest number of 56 miles-an-hour runs, fifteen being shown in the t'mc tabh-s :l'ne North-Western and Midland have eleven trains each, inauding respectively the eight "two-hour" trains between London and Birmingham, and seven between London and Leicester, all the latter in 1 hour 45 minutes lor the qq miles. Th* lopgest run is made by toe Great Western between PaddiEgton and Exeter , 173 miles in 3 hou's and minutes, or 56.3 mi es an hour.
