A Press wire from Gisborne states that the Hon. J. Carroll is steadily recovering from Itis recent indisposition, and was able to visit town yesterday.
A Melbourne cable states that Sir Samuel Gillott has resigned his portfolio as Chief Secretary in the State Cabinet, on the ground of ill-liealtk. llio Taranaki County lias forwarded to Colonel It, J, Collins, as an old .Taranaki boy, its congratulations on his appointment to the position of Secretary to the Treasury,
It is currently reported that in filling the vacancies in the Legislative Council, the Premier will appoint some representatives of tlie farming interests. It is generally believed that Sir William ifussell, Mr J. G. Wilson President of the Farmers' Union, and Mr John Heslop, of South Taranaki, will be amongst the chosen.
