EXCITEMENT IN BRITTANY GOVERNMENT INVENTORY OFFICIALS OBSTRUCTED. CHURCH FILLED WITH SULPHUR FUMES. CONFLICTS WITH TROOPS AND FIREMEN. Received 21st, 11.49 P-m- ---/ Paiis, November 21. The French populace offered considerable resistance throughout Brittany and elsewhere to State interference with Cnurch property. Wnile Government officials were making an inventory of Churcn property, a heap of sulphur wafired inside a church at Pignan, necessitating the breaking of the windows to expel the fumes. ■ Hen then climbed on to tne roof and tried to feed the flames with sulphur. The women were) excited, and obstructed the firemen whose services were sought. At other places the populace gave toe troops much trouble. A Spanish priest at Couranne lay acros, the threshold of an outer door of the church until removed. No fatalities have been reported.
